Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has reacted to the news that even Kosovo can buy the most famous drones of the Turkish army, Bayraktar, conveying a kind of secret warning to Turkey.
"This is neither easy nor good news for us and it will affect our relations, even though we respect President Erdogan a lot," Vucic told Serbian media. He added, however, that he hopes that soon "Serbs will be able to boast of a significant number of kamikaze drones and other aircraft".
Bayraktar drones of the TB2 type are used by the armies of several countries and have recently been sent to Ukraine to help Ukrainian forces fight against the Russian occupation.
Kosovo's interest in buying such drones from Ankara was openly affirmed by the Minister of Regional Development, Fikrim Damka from the Turkish community. The purchase of such weapons is on the government's agenda, but they will be used only for the defense of the country, he told the Turkish state news agency Anadolu.
" Of course, the issue of armed drones is also on our agenda. In this regard, our state develops works every time. Visits have been made, for example, our president Vjosa Osmani and the Minister of Defense Armend Mehaj have visited the factory where Bayraktar drones are produced.
Of course, this is a long-term process and every country wants to have drones in its home, in the warehouse of its military arsenal ", the minister is quoted as saying, despite the fact that the department he leads in the government of Kosovo is not related to military issues or purchase of weapons for the Kosovo Security Force FSK.
