The federal police in Argentina announces that it has arrested one of the heads of the Italian mafia in Buenos Aires, thus ending his several-year escape.
68-year-old Carmine Alfonso Maiorano, considered the leader of the 'Ndrangheta, was arrested in the city of Guernica, a province of Buenos Aires.
The Italian mobster is accused by international authorities of drug and arms trafficking between Latin America and Europe.
An international arrest warrant was issued for Maiorano in 2015 and Interpol swung into action to destroy the criminal group, writes Reuters.
Interpol considers Ndragheta to be one of the most powerful criminal organizations in the world.
According to the police statement, the Ndragheta mafia settled in Argentina several years ago and cooperates with Albanian allies in Europe.
