The decision of the government of Kosovo has entered into force regarding the number plates of vehicles that have not been converted from illegal ones to RKS ones.

Meanwhile, a patrol of the Special Unit of the Kosovo Police is stationed on the bridge between Northern and Southern Mitrovica.

As local media reports, members of the Special Unit are checking every vehicle entering and leaving the Bosniak Quarter. The implementation of this decision will be done in three stages, initially warnings are foreseen, and after three weeks fines for those who do not comply with the request.

Starting from November 1 to November 21, the measure will be that of reprimand, then from November 21 for two months, until January 21, it will be the measure of fine. From January 21, there will be trial license plates for another two months, after which date on April 21 there can be no more illegal license plates in circulation.

It is believed that in the north of Kosovo inhabited by a majority of Serbs, there are around 10,000 license plates issued by Serbia, with acronyms for the cities of Kosovo such as PZ, PR, KM and similar. The license plate decision was originally scheduled to take effect on August 1, but was delayed for a month after local Serbs opposed it and set up barricades in northern Kosovo.
