Norway prepares for war

"Norway's army will strengthen the country's security from November 1, in response to the war in Ukraine". This is what Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere declared on Monday.

"This is the most serious security situation in decades," Stoere said at a press conference, as reported by Reuters.

"There are no indications that Russia is expanding its war in other countries, but the increase in tensions makes us more exposed to threats, intelligence operations and influence campaigns," the prime minister said.

"I don't think people will see any big changes in their daily lives as a result of this. It is about our military apparatus, personnel and the way of organizing their activities", added the prime minister of Norway.

The largest exporter of natural gas in the EU

With the course of the war and the sanctions imposed on Russia, Norway has become the largest exporter of natural gas in the European Union, accounting for about a quarter of all EU imports.

In fact, last June, the European Union and Norway reached an agreement to cooperate in increasing gas reaching Europe. Norwegians expect gas sales in Europe to grow by 8%. Norway, in this sense, has become one of the most important enclaves of the new geopolitical situation resulting from the occupation of Ukraine by Russia.
