The United States has withdrawn from peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
The State Department said the withdrawal occurred after Russian President Vladimir Putin refused to sign the ceasefire.
The State Department has said that Kiev and Moscow must now present concrete proposals to end the war and that they should meet directly to resolve the conflict.
The US has previously warned that the negotiations have entered a "critical" phase, and a lack of progress could mean Washington's withdrawal from efforts to mediate an end to the conflict.
Secretary Marc Rubio said last week that while “real progress” has been made in talks to end Russia’s occupation of Ukraine, “the final steps in this journey were always going to be the hardest, and that has to happen quickly.”
Trump, who began his second term in January, has made ending the war one of his top priorities.
He has called for an immediate and complete ceasefire, and has demanded that Russia stop attacks on Ukrainian cities./ The Telegraph
