For 11 days in a row, Serbian barricades continue to block roads in the north of Kosovo.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti told "The Guardian" that such a situation cannot be tolerated for long. But he is aware of the consequences that a forceful intervention could have. The chief executive explains that they want to be as careful as possible in this direction to make sure that there will be no instability.
"Our concern is that the removal of these barricades may cause casualties. Exclude the victims. And that is why we want to be as careful as possible to make sure that there will be no destabilization and that peace and security will not be affected. However, we cannot allow this violation of legality and constitutionality indefinitely. All this must end, the sooner the better."
From what he claims, the United States of America and the European Union are of the same mind that the barricades should be removed, but they are afraid of the consequences that things may take.
"The EU and the US agree with the idea of removing the barricades. But they are also worried about how this situation can be used, and how it can be abused by Belgrade. I think that our Western partners and friends are mainly afraid of Belgrade's ties with Moscow. We don't know how they can be put into operation in the event of an increase in tensions, towards an escalation in the north".
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, has stated on Saturday that the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo have all the capacities to remove the barricades and in coordination with our international partners they are assessing the situation to see the possibilities of response.
