Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US presidential candidate Donald Trump, appears to have been lured by beachfront properties in Gaza, and has suggested that Israel should "cleanse" the strip of Palestinian civilians.
In an interview with Harvard University, posted on YouTube, Kushner, former foreign adviser to Donald Trump, made a statement that surprised many people.
"Waterfront property in Gaza could be very valuable ... if people would focus on building livelihoods," Middle East Initiative faculty head Prof Tarek Masoud told interviewer Kushner.
Kushner also expressed displeasure about "all the money" that had gone to munitions and building a network of tunnels instead of investing in schools and innovation.
"It's a little bit like an unfortunate situation there, but from Israel's point of view I would do my best to get the people out and then clean it up," Kushner said. "But I don't think Israel has stated that they don't want the people (Palestinians) to go back again," he continued.
Recently, Kushner has expressed his ambition for the construction of tourist resorts in protected natural areas in Albania, such as the island of Sazan and Zvërnec. Also, the plan that was apparently negotiated by Richard Grenell also foresees the construction of luxury hotels in the center of Belgrade in Serbia.
Kushner also said he thinks Israel should relocate civilians from Gaza to the Negev desert in southern Israel.
He said that if he were in charge of Israel, his number one priority would be to get civilians out of the southern city of Rafah and that "with diplomacy" it might be possible to get them into Egypt.
"But besides that, I would bulldoze something in the Negev, I would try to relocate people there," he said.
