The topic of public outdoor pools has been a hot topic in Germany.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz hasn't gone swimming in a public pool in over 40 years. The 65-year-old told reporters that the last public pool he swam in was in a neighborhood in the city of Hamburg where he grew up.
However, the chancellor noted that he visited a public pool in his constituency of Potsdam just last year, but not to swim.
The Social Democrat visited the pool to discuss the issues with voters. Public outdoor swimming pools have been a hot political topic in Germany in recent weeks after several major brawls involving teenagers and young adults, particularly in Berlin.
" We should not hide from such incidents. It must be made clear that we as a state will not tolerate this ", declared Scholz, supporting the idea of increasing the number of police officers to control violence in public swimming pools.
