The head of the Wagner forces, Yevgeny Prigozhin, may be dead or imprisoned after rebelling against the authorities in the Kremlin, a US general believes.
Retired General Robert Abrams, who previously served as commander of US forces, said Prigozhin is most likely dead and will never be seen in public again.
"I think he will either go into hiding or be sent to prison or be dealt with in some other way, but I doubt we will see him again," he told American television ABC News.
Asked if he thinks Prigozhin is still alive, Abrams said: "I personally don't think he is, and if he is, he's in a prison somewhere."
Oligarch Prigozhin was considered one of Putin's closest people, but his hostile relationship with the heads of the Russian Ministry of Defense and the revolt after the withdrawal from Ukraine, turned him into an "enemy" of the regime.
