Johnson withdraws from the race, Sunak the main favorite for the post of British
Rishi Sunak and Boris Johnson

Rishi Sunak is the main favorite to replace Liz Truss, after the latter resigned a few days ago.

This replacement can be done this afternoon, writes the BBC.

While his closest rival, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, withdrew from the race yesterday evening. Johnson said he had the necessary support to stay, but such a thing, according to him, would not be "the right thing to do".

MPs who supported Johnson have begun to switch nominations to support Sunak and Mordaunt.

After Johnson announced his withdrawal from the race, Sunak praised him for his achievements as prime minister, saying "he led Britain through some of the most difficult challenges the country has ever faced".

Labor has repeated its call for a general election, as has the SNP.
