Russia intends to launch a ballistic missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead to intimidate Ukraine and the West, Ukrainian military intelligence warned.

"An RS-24 intercontinental missile will be launched from the central Sverdlovsk region of Russia for "training and combat" purposes, the GUR agency said.

The missile has a flight range of more than 10,000 kilometers, almost double the distance from Russia to the United Kingdom, and was exhibited in Moscow at the Victory Day parade on May 9.

Ukraine said the test release is designed to "demonstratively oppress and intimidate Ukraine, as well as EU and NATO member states."

Russia fired an intercontinental ballistic missile at Ukraine for the first time in early November last year, hitting Dnipro.
