President Donald Trump has stated that he is "recommending" the imposition of 50% tariffs on goods imported from the European Union to the United States.
"Our talks with them are going nowhere ," Trump wrote in a social media post on Friday.
This announcement constitutes an escalation of the trade war between Trump and the EU, which has already been hit by a 20% general tariff on all exports to the US.
The US president also threatened a 25% import tax on iPhones that are not made in America.
"I have long made it known to Tim Cook of Apple that I expect iPhones to be sold in the United States to be manufactured and assembled in the United States, not in India or anywhere else. If that is not the case, then Apple should pay a tariff of at least 25% to the United States. Thank you for your attention to this matter ," the US president said.
This is Trump's latest attempt to force Apple to move its production to American territory.
Last week, the US president said he had a " little problem " with Tim Cook, following reports that the company plans to move assembly of devices for the US market from China to India.
