There is still no white smoke for the parliament in Pristina: The constitution of the Kosovo Assembly failed again, the 20th time in a row that such a thing has happened.
The chairman of the session, Avni Dehari, requested that political entities propose a representative for the Election Commission, but, again, there was no consensus in the hall.
The session was adjourned, to continue after 48 hours. Even appeals in Pristina by the European Union's chief diplomat, Kaja Kallas, for parliamentary parties to cooperate to unblock the political impasse did not seem to bring any change.
Calls from several civil society organizations, which urged them to "reach an agreement that ends the blockade", have also fallen on deaf ears.
Their reasoning was quite clear: "The institutional crisis with the blocking of the constitution of the Assembly has crossed every tolerable limit and is harming not only the parliament, but also the functioning of the entire democratic and institutional system of the country."
Following the parliamentary elections held on February 9, the Kosovo Assembly has failed to be constituted, as the winning party, the Self-Determination Movement (LVV), is not securing enough votes to elect its Speaker.
Considered a divisive figure by several opposition parties, the candidate proposed by LVV for this position, Albulena Haxhiu, has not received the necessary support from MPs in any of the 16 sessions held so far, and yet, Kurti has continued to present her name, despite the fact that PDK, LDK, AAK have declared that they will not vote for Haxhiu for this position.
