The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani

The Presidency of Kosovo has informed that the action taken by the Government of Kosovo, specifically by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the draft statute of the Association and the issue of the Council of Europe, was not consulted nor agreed with the President Vjosa Osmani.

"Yesterday's letter from the Government of Kosovo sent to KIE, was not consulted and agreed with President Osmani. President Osmani only supports positions and actions previously consulted, coordinated and agreed with the institution of the Presidency as a constitutional institution with clear competences in the field of foreign policy and as a guardian of the constitutional functioning of the institutions", stated Bekim Kupina, advisor for media of the president.

He said that this letter is not like that and that it may have been consulted and coordinated with individuals outside the institutions that published this letter today, but not with the Presidency.

"Each derivative of the letter of commitment signed by the three institutions must also be coordinated and approved by these three institutions in advance. Throughout the day, President Osmani is continuing consultations with allies about the issue of membership in the Council of Europe, as she has been doing for a long time, with the aim of unblocking this process", Kupina told the Telegraph.

He further emphasized that "President Osmani will support every action towards the realization of this goal, in full accordance with state interests and the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo. That is why he is making efforts to convince the member states to call an extraordinary session as soon as possible where they will vote in favor of Kosovo's membership in this organization".

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Donika Gërvalla, in a letter addressed to the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Theodoros Rousopoulos, has said that the Government of Kosovo is preparing a draft statute for the Association, which it has pledged to send to the Constitutional Court until the end. of May.

The Government's move comes on the eve of the meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (May 16 & 17), where Kosovo's membership in this organization has not yet been put on the agenda. France and Germany have asked Kosovo to take concrete steps for the Association to guarantee its membership in the Council of Europe.
