A 22-year-old French woman whose bloodied body was found in an abandoned church in northern Italy over the weekend was allegedly searching for a building she believed was haunted, according to police. A police spokeswoman told CNN that she told family members of her plans before leaving the village near Lyon where she lived.

Police believe the victim may have tried to carry out a challenge on TikTok, adding that her death could be linked to a ghost hunting competition being played in France on the social media platform.

Police are still looking for a young man who was seen with her. There are two other cases of missing persons in the area that police say may be related.

According to the spokeswoman, the victim and her friend were seen in the area dressed as "vampires". A witness told the police that the young woman was very thin and pale, adding that she looked like a "walking corpse".

According to the medical expert, the young woman was stabbed and bled to death. She also had two gunshot wounds to the neck and one to the abdomen that police say may have been inflicted after she died. Police say they found a package of pink marshmallows and some groceries next to her body. The woman had no documents or mobile phone on her when a local resident discovered her decomposed body.

District prosecutor Manlio D'Ambrosi told local media that they are also investigating the presence of a van that was seen on surveillance footage near the abandoned church last week. The authorities are working to clarify the circumstances of the event.
