At the age of 9, it was the first time the 15-year-old called the police to report his abusive father, who beat him and his mother in their home in Thessaloniki.
The 50-year-old man of Albanian origin was arrested on Tuesday evening, after his 15-year-old son called the police.
In the statement given by his 44-year-old mother, it was understood that they have experienced domestic violence for years.
The reason for the son's denunciation was the violence that was recently inflicted on his mother.
He was informed by a family friend that his mother is not in a good psychological state, and worried about her, he called the police, as he felt that his mother was in danger and was not there to protect her from father.
The 15-year-old explained to the police how he and his mother are victims of domestic violence by the 50-year-old.
At the same time, his mother told the police that in 2018 her husband was arrested again for domestic violence that happened in front of their son, who was only 9 years old at the time. It was the boy again who called the police.
Then, the 50-year-old punched her hard in the head, she said.
She also complained that in 2021 he abuses her and their infant child, beating and kicking them.
“It happens once a month or so. For example, when the child comes home at night and my partner is drunk, he hits him," she said, stressing that she does not want her husband to be prosecuted.
"I love him, I don't want him to go to prison," she said.
Even though her husband was arrested and on Friday he is expected to be tried on serious charges of domestic violence against her and their child, the 44-year-old speaking to protothema.gr declares that she loves him and that she does not want to go to prison because "it's a shame", attributing the blame for the violence to alcohol.
"My husband does not hit me every day, but once or twice a month, when he drinks and does not understand what he is doing," she says, while adding that she is not afraid of him.
" We fight and the next day he says 'I'm sorry, I love you.' I love it too. I don't want him to go to jail, it's a shame. I feel sorry for him, he has a problem with alcohol and when he doesn't drink he's a good person ," she says.
According to the information, the defendant has served a prison sentence in the past and is accused of a criminal offense.
