Jonimajt, the early princely family in Albania

Jonima is one of the earliest princely families in Albania. Jonimaj is mentioned as Sevaste since 1208.

They had their political and administrative center in Sebastë, east of Laçi. The name of the Jonima family is also found in the form Gjonima, Jonema and Gonema.

Among the most prominent figures of this family is mentioned the generous Dhimitër Jonima, who, in 1389, together with George II Strazimir Balsha, took part in the Battle of Kosovo.

After the Ottoman conquest, a branch of the Jonimaj settled in the coastal city of Parga, then under the Republic of Venice. In the 16th century, we find Jonimaj in the Golden Book of the noble families of Corfu.

The armor of Jonimaj is: azure with a golden and crowned lion, raised on the two hind legs, with the front ones holding a golden tower.
