Campaign of fines for those who "insult" Rama, DP urgently requests

The Democratic Party requests a report from the head of the Albanian Association of Media, Armela Krasniqi, to the Media Commission.

This is due to the fine campaign launched by the latter for those who "insult" Rama on television shows.

"The Prime Minister is losing his footing. The system he has built is so shaken that he is using every means of repression, every form of punishment and intimidation against anyone who opposes him."

He started it himself, threatening anyone who protests with prison. He continued with police violence against protesters and punitive normative acts. Now he is using the AMA to threaten and blackmail anyone who does not speak according to his instructions and orders.

I consider this behavior of the AMA to be contrary to the law, the Constitution, and the principles that should guide an independent institution. Therefore, together with my colleagues from the opposition and the Democratic Party, I have signed the request to call the AMA to report before the Human Rights and Media Commission.

Concerns about the independence of the AMA require concrete answers. An institution that must guarantee the implementation of the law and respect freedom of expression cannot become a political whip against the media and critical voices.

No one can silence journalism or return Albania to the dark times of the thought police.

"It is time for accountability. AMA must answer: who directs its decision-making, on what legal basis it acts, and who it serves, the public or the government," says MP Jorida Tabaku in a reaction to the media.
