Free Kosovo – Independence Written in Blood

The death of Haxhi Thaçi, the father of former President Hashim Thaçi, was more than a personal and family loss—it became a mirror of the stark contrast between the greatness of the people and the weakness of the institutions. While thousands of Albanians came together to honor the Thaçi family on their day of grief, the Kosovo government remained silent. And in that silence, an even greater tragedy hid: the attempt to forget those who built Kosovo into a state!

Hashim Thaçi is not just a former president; he is one of the architects of Kosovo's independence. From the Rambouillet Agreement in 1999, which led to the country's liberation, to the historic declaration of independence in 2008, his role is undeniable. Today, instead of being close to his people, he is held prisoner in The Hague facing a political trial, influenced by pressure from Serbia and its allies. And on the very day when he needed his country more than ever, to bid his father a final farewell, the country he founded with his signature turned its back on him.

On the day of Haxhi Thaçi’s funeral, Kosovo was transformed into a cathedral of national unity. Thousands of Albanians from the Albanian-speaking lands and the diaspora gathered in Burojë and Skënderaj to honor a family that gave Kosovo a wartime commander and a president of peace. But amidst this great homage, the government’s absence was painful. There was no effort to allow Hashim Thaçi to attend the funeral, no official words—only silence. And in this silence, we saw two Kosovos: one that honors history, the other that tries to erase it.

This was not simply a lack of leadership—it was a betrayal of the very ideals for which the KLA fought. A government that does not protect the dignity of one of the founders of the state has abandoned not only him, but every family of martyrs who gave their lives for the freedom of Kosovo. There is no excuse for this silence! The truth is clear: without the KLA, without Adem Jashari and Hashim Thaçi and their comrades, Kosovo would not be free today.

The death of Haxhi Thaçi reminded us of a historical truth—Albanians do not forget their heroes. At that funeral there were no political, religious or geographical divisions. It was a nation that honored sacrifice and believed in a free Kosovo. This is not simply a memory of the past, but a call to defend the truth of the liberation war.

The trial taking place in The Hague is not just a battle for Hashim Thaçi—it is a test for Kosovo itself. Will we as a people allow Serbia to rewrite history with show trials? Will we remain silent while our liberators face unjust accusations?

The people's answer has already been given: NO!
With the massive participation in the funeral and the condolences that lasted for days in Skenderaj, Albanians spoke with one voice: "Hashim Thaçi is ours. The KLA's war was just. No one can erase this truth."

Kosovo cannot move forward by denying the past. Independence was not won at diplomatic tables, but with the blood of martyrs. A state that honors its heroes honors itself, while a government that abandons them shows its weakness.

Hashim Thaçi has been imprisoned in The Hague for 5 years, but he will never be defeated. The history of Kosovo cannot be written in rigged courts—it lives in the hearts of those who fought for Kosovo, it lives and will live forever as long as the Albanian nation exists.

For Albin Kurti, Vjosa Osmani and the entire leadership that governs Kosovo today, the death of Haxhi Thaçi and their behavior with Hashim should serve as a deep reflection, because Kosovo is a trust that is never forgiven, the living martyrs and heroes are Kosovo itself and not the next transitional government! / D.Dibra
