A meeting held behind closed doors at the General Directorate of the State Police marked the beginning of discussions on the reorganization of the institution's management structure.
A2 CNN has published the draft of the new structure, which is expected to be approved soon.
According to the document, the State Police will function with six main departments:
Criminal Police Department
Border Department
International Relations Department
Public Order and Security Department
Support Services
Department Information Technology (IT) Department
Sources from within the structure indicate that the new draft foresees the strengthening of the Criminal Police Department, which will have more powers and subordinate directorates, while other departments will be reduced in size and attributes.
The new department will be called the “Department for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Serious Crimes” and will consist of seven directors:
Directorate for the Investigation of Narcotics and Trafficking
Directorate for the Investigation of Economic and Financial Crimes
Directorate for the Investigation of Serious Crimes
Directorate of the Special Operational Force
Directorate of Emergency and Criminal Archives
Directorate for the Investigation of Cybercrime
Directorate of Europol
A notable change is the transition of the Europol Directorate under the jurisdiction of this department, although in most EU countries Europol and Interpol operate together.
With the entry into force of the new structure, the merger of the Organized Crime Directorate, currently headed by Edmond Rizai, is expected, due to overlaps with the Anti-Drug Directorate.
The reform is expected to concentrate more power at the top management levels, dividing the State Police into two main pillars: the General Director and the Director of the Department for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Serious Crimes, a post currently held by Neritan Nallbati.
