The well-known Albanian journalist dies at a young age

Zijadin Gashi, a journalist for Radio Free Europe for many years, died on Tuesday at the age of 51.

He has faced a brain tumor in the last months of his life.

Gashi has practiced the profession of journalist since 1997, covering the political current affairs in Kosovo.

Earlier in the year, the Association of Journalists of Kosovo gave him recognition for his contribution to journalism, before and during the war in Kosovo, in the period 1998-99.

From 2001 to 2020, he worked for Radio Free Europe - as a journalist and for a period as bureau chief in Pristina - to then continue contributing to other media in Kosovo.

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has consoled the family and the community of journalists for the death of Gashi, describing him as a dedicated journalist who dedicated his whole life to work in the media.

"His long career and contribution to the written, electronic and television media were characterized by integrity and unwavering commitment to informing the public, accurately and professionally," said the statement issued by the Presidency.

Zijadin Gashi completed his secondary education at the "Sami Frashëri" gymnasium in Prishtina, to continue his studies at the University of Prishtina.

He left behind his wife and three children, as well as a valuable legacy in journalism.
