The Tirana Prosecutor's Office has brought five Kosovo citizens to trial for "smuggling of goods without a license".

The defendants were caught at Rinas Airport in December 2024 while returning from Istanbul with 14 suitcases of medication and 300 thousand euros in cash.

"Meanwhile, after the arrival of the luggage, Rinas Customs officers, the Anti-Smuggling, Anti-Trafficking Group and the Rinas Police, found 14 suitcases with 1,057,840 medications labeled 'Unified' with a total weight of 417.1 kg, which were seized along with the undeclared monetary value.

The investigation proved the commission of smuggling of unauthorized licensed goods (medicines) in the Republic of Albania. The prosecution concluded that the criminal offense was committed in collaboration by the five arrested persons.

"The seized goods, which are classified as 'medicines' within the meaning of Law No. 105/2014 'On Medicines and Pharmaceutical Services', as amended, require: a marketing authorization, a use authorization and a control stamp issued by the Ministry of Health in accordance with the obligations set out in Law No. 105/2014 'On Medicines and Pharmaceutical Services' , as amended," the Prosecution's announcement states.
