A tragic event occurred yesterday afternoon on the island of Paxos, where a 4-year-old girl of Albanian origin was found dead in the swimming pool of a tourist villa.

According to preliminary information, the only child of an Albanian family, who has lived and worked on the island for years, had been playing in the garden of the house at around 3:00 PM.

At some point, the girl escaped her mother's attention and disappeared without a trace. The mother, along with neighbors, immediately began searching, but to no avail.

A few minutes later, the girl's body was found in the swimming pool of a villa about 150 meters from their home, by the villa's cook, who had gone there to start work.

The girl was immediately taken to the island's Health Center, where doctors attempted to revive her, but unfortunately to no avail.

The police were immediately notified of the incident, while the child's mother is being held at the Paxos Police Station and is expected to appear before the prosecutor today.

Investigations are ongoing to clarify the full circumstances of this tragedy that has shocked the local community.
