The Super Cup match between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe has been postponed! The match in Saudi Arabia at Riyadh's Al-Aweal stadium was supposed to start at 6:45 p.m., but the teams have left.
The drama in Riyadh for the Turkish Super Cup between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe lasted long.
The object of the dispute is that both teams against the will of the Saudis were aiming to take to the field with a banner "Peace at home, peace to the world" and shirts with the image of Kemal Mustafa Ataturk, whom they respect as "Father of the Fatherland."
The Saudi administration disapproves of this and after lengthy negotiations with representatives of Turkish clubs, it seems they have failed to find common ground.
According to Turkey's TRT, Saudi police were in the dressing room waiting for the players to prevent an eventual appearance on the pitch in the above outfits.
Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu was among the first to give information on the postponement of the match, saying "Galatasaray and Fener players are coming home".
