Anti-drug operation in Elbasan, criminal group hit, 3 in handcuffs, 45 kg of cannabis and weapons seized, one police officer injured

A well-organized operation conducted late last night led to the dismantling of a structured criminal group operating in the field of drug trafficking.

Top Channel correspondent Bruna Kërçyku reports that the action was carried out by the Elbasan Local Police Directorate in cooperation with the Shkodra Local Police Directorate.

As a result of the intervention, three people were arrested in flagrante delicto, while at least 45 kilograms of cannabis sativa, a combat weapon, ammunition, a significant amount of money, as well as several mobile phones with Albanian and foreign SIM cards were seized in the vehicle in which they were traveling.

According to police sources, the operation was accompanied by the pursuit of a vehicle suspected of transporting narcotics. At the entrance to the city of Elbasan, the driver of the vehicle realized that he was being followed by law enforcement and attempted to flee at speed, entering an unlit street in a suburban neighborhood.

Police surrounded the area and managed to neutralize the vehicle, handcuffing the three people inside.

During the operation, a police officer was accidentally injured as a result of a broken glass, but his life was not in danger.

Investigations are continuing intensively, as it is suspected that the criminal group has long extended its activity to at least three regions of the country. Investigative structures are working to identify and capture other individuals involved in this drug trafficking network.

This operation is considered another strong blow against organized crime and drug trafficking in the country./TCH
