The Council of Ministers has approved an important decision for students of excellence who are currently employed in the state administration. The government has decided to extend the term of their contracts, avoiding the termination of their employment relationship.

According to the decision proposed by the Minister of State for Public Administration and Anti-Corruption, this measure comes as an "exception for 2026".

Who benefits?

The decision specifies that all those excellent students who were hired with a 1-year temporary contract based on the public call of December 2024 will benefit.

Given that their 1-year mandate is ending at the beginning of 2026, there was a risk that they would remain unemployed until new procedures were opened.

How long does the postponement last?

The change in the DCM provides that their contract will be automatically extended until the completion of regular employment procedures (competitions for civil servant status or labor code).

This means that students will continue to remain on duty and be paid until the permanent recruitment process is finalized.

The Department of Public Administration (DPA) has been tasked with implementing this decision to guarantee the continuity of work in institutions.
