The government increases salaries for firefighters, indexation of 2.5% and specific allowances for lower ranks

The Council of Ministers has approved the change in the salary structure for employees of the Fire Protection and Rescue Service (FPS).

The new decision provides for a general increase through indexation, as well as an additional specific increase for lower and middle grades.

According to the decision proposed by the Minister of State for Public Administration and Anti-Corruption, the new salaries will reflect an indexation of 2.5% for the entire structure.

Who benefits more?

In addition to indexation, the government has applied a special salary increase policy for employees holding operational ranks. According to point 2 of the decision, the beneficiaries of the increase (beyond indexation) are the ranks:

Firefighter assistant

fireman

Fire Chief

Firefighter Deputy Commissioner

Fire Commissioner

For other higher grades, the decision specifies that only inflation indexation of 2.5% will be applied.

The changes enter into force for the 2026 budget year. The funds for this increase will be covered by the budget of the relevant central institutions and by local self-government units (municipalities), through the transfer approved in the 2026 Budget and their own revenues.
