Deputy Prosecutor of genoa's Antimafia District Directorate, Federico Manotti, has requested the immediate trial of seven suspects as international drug traffickers of South American and Albanian nationality, who kidnapped one person in the failed attempt to import 100 kilograms of cocaine from South America to Liguria.
The trial, due to start on February 26, involves people aged 26 to 42. The other two suspects have been removed from positions: Ardian Sufaj, 39, of Albanian origin, considered by investigators as the head of the organization and arrested in Albania with the cooperation of local law enforcement and currently imprisoned in a prison in Albania, and another man still on the run in the Dominican Republic.
The organisation had relied on a Genovese port worker, who was actually a secret financier.
The drugs were seized during a raid in Panama and panicked the group, which had kidnapped another person, the intermediary between the port worker and the gang, in an attempt to figure out where the shipment had ended up.
