On Friday, July 11, Albanian speleology had a significant success with the realization of a professional dive and underwater exploration in one of the country's caves.
For the first time, an all-Albanian team dived into the inner lake of the "Kusia e Nue Gjonit" cave, in the village of Kurbnesh, discovering the connection between the two lakes and reaching a depth of up to 11 meters.
"Our expedition to the 'Kusia e Nue Gjonit' cave, in the village of Kurbnesh, marked a special achievement: for the first time, a professional dive was carried out into the cave's inner lake, revealing the connection between the two lakes and a depth of up to 11 meters - a promising start for even deeper explorations in the future," reads a statement on the social networks of the Albanian Speleological Association.
The expedition, led by Roland Doja and Alket Camaj, consisted of a team of speleologists, divers, and enthusiasts passionate about research and exploration of natural environments.
They conducted a detailed study that highlights the extraordinary potential of this cave, not only as an important site for speleology, but also as a space of great scientific value for the study of the underwater environment and geological structures.
"This expedition is not just an achievement for our association - it is a giant step for scientific exploration in Albania, an inspiring example for younger generations and a testament to our commitment to nature and science," says the association's announcement, which closes with thanks to all participants in this exploration, especially the young aspirants.
