Erion Veliaj's case is now clearer, but more complicated for him. Prime Minister Edi Rama has taken over the order for his transfer to Fier, due to suspicions that he has been involved in inappropriate communications from prison, related to the violent revolts in Tirana, and that the temporary transfer disconnects him from this illegality.

Legally, the Prime Minister's reasoning before the parliamentary group, if proven, plunges Veliaj into a new investigation for illegal use of communication means. Politically, it practically turns him into an opponent of the government, closing political accounts with him.

In fact, I do not believe that Veliaj is behind any organization of protests in Tirana, nor that he has the power or logistical means to help those who are protesting. Moreover, Erion Veliaj is the imprisoned politician most attacked by the protest, where the slogans are chanted in chorus: “O Erion, o legen, wait for Rama because he is coming!”

So, we are neither in conditions where the protesters have political nor human confidence with him.

But I'm not betting that he doesn't communicate from prison, like every other prisoner. A phone cost 1,500 euros a month in Ulëziu's time.

More than his friendship with flamingos, which I do not believe, Erion Veliaj has made clear his hostility to the government. His recent actions, in an attempt to restore his authority over the Municipality of Tirana, as well as his political statements about the events in Belgrade, put an end to his hypocrisy as a politician who only faced the legal and political injustices of the new Albanian justice. Since that day, he has become a critical oppositionist towards the government and its approach to the protests in Tirana.

This is much more important than his unknown communications, as this is a public stance. The government is not overthrown by phone conversations or prison chatter, but by political alignment for or against it. Erion Veliaj has made clear the difference he has with the government regarding the protests and, as such, is an opponent of the government.

Edi Rama's response to Veliaj should not be a transfer to Fier or a warning that "he does not fall into mistakes", but a public statement against him. He cannot treat someone who already has a political opponent like a child who needs to be educated, by taking away his toys, in this case his phones.

Edi Rama should come out and tell the socialists that Erion Veliaj is our opponent from now on and whoever is with me should continue behind me. This is honest, fair and political. Above all, it is also true.

From that day on, Edi Rama has the right, as the leader of the Socialist Party, to treat Erion Veliaj as a political opponent. But as Prime Minister, he has no reason to interfere in his prison regime. Moreover, now that he has a political opponent. He should stand up to him as a political opponent, but not as Prime Minister.

In fact, precisely because he now has a political opponent, he must be much more careful not to interfere in matters pertaining to the prison regime and his imprisonment, as, instead of harming him, it could turn him into a political hero, damaging both his own political cause and the authority of the state.

He cannot act as both his guardian angel and his executioner.

Now that he has a political opponent, he must maintain the sportsmanship and distance he has maintained with every political opponent to date, with whom he has had not only peaceful relations, but sometimes even excessive respect.

Erion Veliaj is now one of those facing him. Return him to Durrës, so he can be close to his family, and treat him as an opponent.

Luckily, there are two prosecutors on the case who are ready to charge him with the murder of Christ, since they have also found the accuser with a name that, from Greece, where they took their inspiration, means a resurrected war.

Therefore, the entire engagement of the Prime Minister in this story is excessive for someone who is still suffering a conspiracy to be punished at all costs. There is no need for further accusations. And the Socialist Party did not need a new war within itself either.
