"I will not become prime minister if I win the elections." This was stated by the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha. According to him, a referendum will decide who will be the prime minister and there is no need for constitutional changes for this.
"I have stated one thing: I do not become prime minister because I win the elections. No. I become prime minister by referendum. If I win the elections, Albanians will vote for the prime minister once again. The constitution does not prevent you from giving them the opportunity with 3-4 candidacies by popular referendum. Absolutely no ambition, but respect. That if you lead the campaign and win everything that you have told the citizens, they are right. Then the problem arises that they must decide separately about the candidacies of the prime minister," Berisha said on the show "Çdokënd me Merita Haklajn" on A2 CNN.
Berisha expressed his belief that the opposition will win the elections within a month without Edi Rama.
"Under free conditions, today the opposition wins the elections if the elections are held within a month without Edi Rama ," he said.
The democratic leader stood by his statements about limiting the prime minister to two terms.
"I am, because from 1990-2013 there have been 4 rotations. From 2013 to today, no rotation because in Albania, organized crime with Edi Rama allows rotation."
