Former German ambassador, Werner Daum , passes away in the country he loved so much.

The diplomat passed away in Albania, where he had arrived a few days earlier.

He died at the age of 82, he was found dead in his hotel room. It is believed that he died of natural causes.

Daum participated a few days ago in the inauguration of the statue of the martyr of democracy, Josif Budo, in Kavaja.

We recall that Daum was ambassador to Albania from 1987 to 1990, precisely at the time when the movement against the communist regime began.

He opened the doors of the German embassy to Albanians, going against the instructions of his government.

In a later interview, he admitted that he did this deliberately, knowing that the mass exodus of Albanians would also bring about the fall of the regime.
