Police Director Ilir Proda has appointed new chiefs of police stations in several cities across the country.

Edjona Dano has been appointed the new head of the Kuçova Police Station.

Dano, a former journalist by profession, was the only woman who competed for police chief and was announced on the winning list, as well as qualifying as the winner among the 290 contestants who aimed to be police chiefs at the end of last year.

Most recently, Dano held the position of Head of the Section for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Protection of Minors, at the Tirana Police.

Previously, he held the position of Head of the Crime Investigation Section at Police Station No. 6 in Tirana.

This is the second appointment in the 35-year history of appointing a woman to head a police station. Anila Popa served at the Librazhd police station for several months in 2016.
