A fraudulent scheme that has been circulating recently to extort citizens through several links sent via SMS has put the State Police on alert.

The latter, through a notice, informs citizens about this scheme so that they do not fall victim to abuse.

Through messages from unknown numbers, suspicious links are sent to mobile phones, requiring users to click on them and enter their banking details and other personal information.

Be careful, the police urge you not to click on these links and not to enter any personal data.

State Police Announcement:

The Cybercrime Investigation Directorate of the State Police informs the public about a fraudulent scheme that is recently circulating through SMS messages and electronic communication applications.

As yet unidentified citizens are sending messages containing fake links, claiming that citizens need to update their bank details or verify their accounts. After citizens click on these links and provide their personal or bank details, the perpetrators of these actions manage to access bank accounts and in many cases, have stolen significant amounts of money.

The State Police emphasizes that no banking or state institution requests the sending of sensitive data, such as bank card numbers, PIN codes or other security credentials, through SMS or suspicious links.

For this reason, we call on all citizens:

Do not click on any links sent from unknown sources;

Not to provide their personal or banking information in suspicious forms online;

Verify any such information directly with the relevant institution (bank or state agency);

Immediately report any suspected case to the cybercrime investigation structures of the State Police.

The State Police continues to pursue these cases with priority and is cooperating closely with financial institutions and partners to identify and prosecute the perpetrators.
