The investigation into the murder of Albanian-Italian student Ilaria Sula is still ongoing. And while investigators are focused on finding possible accomplices who may have helped hide the body, Mark Samson himself wrote a letter to Ilaria's family, in which he says he is aware of what he did.

"I did not respect it," the piece of paper written by the murderer from prison reads. "I am not trying to minimize my responsibilities or escape the consequences of my actions. I am ready to pay for my sins without any excuse," the letter says, among other things.

In addition to her murder, the Filipino hid his ex-girlfriend's body by putting it in several black bags, which were then sealed in a suitcase and thrown into a stream from the provincial road that leads to Poli, in Monte Guadagnolo. After returning to Rome, he met a friend of his ex-girlfriend to have lunch together. Meanwhile, in those days, while the search for Ilaria Sula, whose disappearance was reported public on March 25, 2025, continued, perhaps together with two of his friends who were collaborators, Samson used the girl's mobile phone, which he still had in his possession, to try to manipulate the investigation.

“I’m in Naples with some friends, don’t worry,” he wrote to her WhatsApp friends. “I’m fine, thank you,” he wrote on Instagram in a story from Ilaria’s profile (a matter that is still under investigation, given that Samson denied this passage in his confession).

The letter, written today, was published by Italian media . The letter opens with today's date and the introduction: "I am Mark Samson."

Then he continues: "I am writing to you from my cell where I will stay for several years. Every day I think about the terrible crime I committed and I do not know what to say. But above all I do not know what happened to me. It is banal to apologize for the pain I caused, but I want to apologize to Ilaria and I did not respect her when she wanted to leave me. I went crazy with pain and lost control. I am aware of the fact that nothing I can say or do today will be able to soothe the family's pain in the slightest. I am not trying to reduce my responsibilities or escape the consequences of my actions, I am ready to pay for my sins without any excuse."
