A former Albanian public procurement official, convicted by the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime for abuse of office and violation of equality in tenders, has been handcuffed in a town in southern England.
Top Channel learns that Krenar Gozhina has appeared before the extradition court in the British capital and has been sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison, but with a shortened sentence he would have to serve 1 year in prison.
Gozhina was investigated and charged by SPAK along with several other people for abuses with the tender and transportation of Lushnja prison guards.
According to documents from the extradition court in London, obtained by Top Channel, former official Krenar Gozhina was arrested by Kent Police in Southern England at his home on Peri Court Street in Canterbury.
The extradition court was told that Krenar Gozhina has been arrested for extradition purposes with an arrest warrant issued by the Albanian judiciary.
"Between February 2019 and March 2019, in the territory of Albania, he abused his position as an official, namely in the Procurement Office of Albania, by intentionally using this position for financial gain, without following the proper procedures and by demanding inappropriate payments during the procurement process."
This information was read to the preliminary judge in the case, who decided that Gozhina would pursue the extradition process on parole until February 2, 2026.
To gain parole, his relatives set a bail of 5,000 pounds.
The former public procurement officer will have to report to Canterbury police station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
It's like an electronic monitoring device has been placed on his leg.
Currently, the extradition court in London is reviewing 12 requests from Albania for 12 Albanian citizens, who were hiding in England and located by Interpol Tirana, arrested on behalf of our country by police forces in various cities of the island state.
