Frequent quarrels over trivial issues and increasingly heated debates over the boundaries of ownership are believed to be the main motive that prompted Fatos Cenaj's neighbor to organize an ambush on him on June 8 in Fontaniva, Italy, an attack that ended with the death of the 58-year-old Albanian after three days of agony in hospital.
The suspected perpetrator does not come from abroad but is an Italian neighbor, a worker in a local factory, who is already under investigation for intentional murder.
According to Italian media, the victim's family was afraid of him and was forced to leave the apartment after the tragic event.
The suspect is currently at large and is being treated at the ULSS 6 Mental Health Center, after a notice of preliminary investigation was issued against him just a few days after the incident.
Investigators have searched his apartment and are suspected of identifying him through security camera footage in the area.
According to the main track of the investigators, on the morning of June 8, the perpetrator waited for Fatos Cenaj hiding among the trees, a few hundred meters from the "Dindo" farm, where the victim worked. The moment he rode a tricycle, the suspect shot him from behind with a firearm, seriously wounding him in the head, just above the ear.
After the attack, he allegedly took the cartridge from the scene and left on a bicycle, leaving no trace. Cenaj was taken to hospital in serious condition and died three days later, on June 11.
The results of the ballistic analysis, which have been entrusted to the hands of the Carabinieri of the RIS special unit in Parma, are expected to be released in the coming days.
They are expected to be crucial for the full clarification of the crime.
