Lives lost in the prime of youth, deformed cars, and social wounds that may never heal.

This is the panorama of the many tragic accidents that have occurred in our country in recent weeks. An evening walk, a rush to work or a visit to relatives was interrupted by a fatal accident.

According to state police statistics, 138 people have lost their lives as a result of road accidents by the end of August.

Compared to a year ago, although we have about 120 fewer accidents, the number of victims and injured has increased, making the road accident landscape in our country even more serious.

From January to August last year, 1,086 accidents were recorded, with 100 fatalities and 131 seriously injured. This year, the number of accidents is 961, resulting in 138 fatalities and 149 seriously injured.

Among the main reasons for serious accidents are speeding, improper overtaking, and the use of a cell phone or alcohol while driving.

The balance of 138 victims from road accidents should serve as an alarm for the authorities but also for every driver to see the roads not just as asphalt and traffic lights, but as terrain where you must move by implementing rules that, rather than being punitive, protect our lives./ Tch
