The three Albanians caught in Scotland on the farm with over 3 thousand cannabis

Three Albanians who tried to "flood" Scotland with drugs have been jailed for a total of 17 years in prison after they were caught running a cannabis farm in an abandoned shopping mall.

Elton Skenderi, 29, Gjovalin Toma, 31, and Eduard Daja, 39, cultivated the drugs in the former Irvine Forum shopping centre in North Ayrshire.

During a raid in September 2024, police found 3,058 cannabis plants on the site, with an estimated value of between £600,000 and £1.8 million. At the High Court in Glasgow on Wednesday, Judge Lord Mulholland told them: "I don't think I've ever seen so many cannabis plants in one place."

All three pleaded guilty to criminal offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act in the same court on August 6. Eduard Daja also pleaded guilty to breaching an eviction order, which was issued in July 2023 following a previous conviction for producing cannabis at Leeds Crown Court.

During sentencing on Wednesday, Lord Mulholland told them they had been involved in "industrial-scale criminality". Addressing them through Albanian translators, he added: "This was not a small-scale operation."
