Albania is ready to re-home 49 more migrants who were rescued at sea under a bilateral agreement with Italy.
The government of the neighboring country confirms that the ship "Cassiopea" has set off to transfer the migrants to the Shëngjin camp, who, upon arrival, will undergo reception, stay and assessment procedures for individual cases.
The ship with 49 migrants is expected to dock at the port of Shëngjin on the morning of January 27.
According to international media, approximately 53 other migrants have voluntarily surrendered their passports to avoid transfer, an important circumstance that allows for the acceleration of procedures for verifying their status, even without forced stay.
This increases the possibilities for the repatriation of those who do not have the right to stay in the EU, writes Corriere della Sera.
The migrants on board the ship 'Cassiopea' are of Egyptian and Bangladeshi origin, while the ship is being used to transfer the third group of asylum seekers to Albania, after the first two in October and November.
The asylum seekers will be transferred to the Gjader center, where they will be held pending the completion of their applications, while in the two previous cases, when 20 asylum seekers sent to the Shëngjin and then Gjader centers were released by decisions of judges of the Rome Court who rejected the detentions and requested immediate evacuation.
This time the government hopes for a better outcome. Now those who will decide will no longer be the magistrates of the immigration section, but those of the Court of Appeal, as provided for in the new law requested by the executive and which entered into force on January 11.
