From yesterday evening to this morning, 9 earthquakes were recorded in the area of ​​Xibri in Dibër. The strongest shock was 3.7 magnitude recorded at midnight, causing panic among the residents of the area.

Seismologist Edmond Dushi from "IGJEUM", contacted by "5pyetjet.al" said that we are dealing with a tectonic detachment, which is being monitored to see what it will produce next.

"It is an area that has had activity, tectonic detachment, and so we expect earthquakes. It has been activated since yesterday and is active.

We call these normal activities until we see a trend. There is no trend yet, the nature has not shown, we are waiting. It started with 2.4 then it dropped and now we are at 3.7, but we are monitoring.

It is the tectonic activity of the area, a local fracture. It has an extension and there are several epicenters that define an area. The trend of the area has not yet appeared. We don't have a very clear characteristic, so we can say that at the moment it is a cluster of earthquakes, the strongest with a magnitude of 3.7," he said.

But is this related to the earthquakes that are being recorded in the region, especially in Greece in recent days?

"This is a local fault, it is not likely to be related to other tectonic faults, or other areas.

But the Balkan region, the collision with the Adriatic or Aegean plate, creates a kind of continuous strain for us and this is reflected in the internal fractures.

We're on the move all the time, that's the idea. At the moment we have a moderate magnitude, but not that there is anything special", says Dushi.
