Brazilian football legend Mario Zagallo has died at the age of 92. He is the only one who managed to win the World Cup 4 times as a player or coach.
He played for Brazil in 1958 and was part of the team four years later when the Latin Americans retained the world title.
He brought back his Brazil to triumph in 1970, this time as a coach, having big names like Jairzinho, Rivellino and Tostao in the team. That team is considered the best of all time. He was also assistant coach when Brazil won their fourth World Cup in 1994 and was the first person in the sport to win the World Cup as a player and coach.
"A devoted father, a loving grandfather, loyal friend, successful professional, and a great man. A patriot who has left us a great legacy. The eternal champion of the world", with these great words, the family said goodbye to Zagallo on social networks.
He was born in 1931 and his first dream was to become a pilot, but he had to give it up because of vision problems. He went on to study accounting and accidentally became a footballer when he started playing with a local team in his spare time.
In an interview years ago, Mario said: " My father didn't want me to become a footballer, he didn't let me. Then it was not a profession that was respected, society did not value it. That's why I say that football came into my life by chance ", he said.
He was very superstitious and believed that the number 13 brought him luck. Zagallo married on the date, even saying he would retire from football at 1pm on 13 July 2013.
