Germany will be looking to rectify their 2018 World Cup 'target' when they travel to Qatar for this year's edition of the said tournament, having surprisingly finished bottom of the group stage last time out in Russia.
This was then followed by another poor performance at Euro 2020, where England were eliminated in the round of 16. That saw Hansi Flick replace Joachim Low in charge of the national team, with the former Bayern Munich boss desperate to make a positive impact in his first major tournament as head coach.
The four-time World Champions do not have an easy draw as they face 2010 champions Spain, Asian powerhouse Japan and Concacaf side Costa Rica in Group E.
The goalkeepers
Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will be the main man between the posts in Qatar. Barcelona's Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Eintracht Frankfurt's Kevin Trapp have been selected as backup goalkeepers.
LAWYER
Antonio Rudiger is likely to start as one of the centre-backs, with either Dortmund duo Niklas Sule or Nico Schlotterbeck. Thilo Kehrer and David Raum will relish their chances as the main options on the wings, with the likes of Benjamin Henrichs and Robin Gosens also capable of giving their best in these roles. Other options include Matthias Ginter, while Mats Hummels remains out, with promising youngster Armel Bella-Kotchap a surprise addition.
Midfielder
Flick has plenty of options in midfield for both defensive-minded and more creative players. Joshua Kimmich looks confident in midfield and the likes of Ilkay Gundogan, Leon Goretzka and Julian Brandt will also be optimistic for the starting line-up. Promising youngster Jamal Musiala will add some flair and creativity to this squad.
The attackers
Formacioni tip i Gjermanisë (4-2-3-1): Neuer; Klostermann, Sule, Rudiger, Raum; Kimmich, Gundogan; Gnabry, Muller, Sane; Havertz
