The goalkeeper of Bayern Munich and the German national team, Manuel Neuer, has revealed that he has undergone three surgeries for facial skin cancer.

The 36-year-old said his cancer story was a driving force behind the decision to team up with compatriot and three-time Grand Slam tennis champion Angelique Kerber to launch a skincare range. called "Newkee."

"We both have a very personal history of skin diseases. In Angelique's case it's sun-related hyperpigmentation, in my case it's facial skin cancer. So I had to operate on my face three times so far, - said Neuer in a press statement. – That's why we don't compromise when it comes to sun protection. I train outside all the time and I also like to spend my free time in nature."

Neuer had not previously disclosed his diagnosis of skin cancer, as the timeline of when he underwent these surgeries remains unclear. The German is currently on his way back from a shoulder injury that has ruled him out since early October. The goalkeeper hopes to be fit in time for Bayern Munich's final three games ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.

Neuer hopes to win a second World Cup. He has 113 caps for Germany and was a mainstay when they won the 2014 World Cup. Neuer won the Golden Glove award also in 2014, and was named in both the World Cup All-Star teams in 2010 and 2014.
