Opposition councilor Dorian Teliti said that the Democratic Party will vote to dismiss Erion Veliaj as mayor of Tirana. At the Tirana Municipal Council meeting, Teliti told the socialist councilors that they are rising to the occasion after 7 months.
Teliti said that Veliaj will be tried by the Court, but he was supposed to be in the meeting today.
Telit's statement:
You are rising to the height of duty, you have been missing this height for 7 months. This has cost Tirana a lot.
This is a historic act.
Today we joined the votes, not us with you, but you with us, because we have had 4 months for this day to happen and you still did not stand up.
Better late than never, but thank you today for at least liberating Tirana. I would like this act to be reflected in the many other violations that have occurred over the years.
Veliaj should not be fired for being absent for 90 days, he should be fired for economic-financial crimes and the abandonment he has committed in Tirana, which has turned Tirana into a huge money laundering machine.
This proposal is not complete, although it will receive our votes and is our political demand.
I would really like to have the defendant Erion Veliaj, the outgoing mayor, here today, to tell him to his face, because he didn't have the courage to stand before us, to face us.
"The Court will conduct its own trial, but he should have been here today in his constitutional right and given his version, to tell him these harsh and criminal truths that he has caused to this capital," said Teliti.
