UNESCO's critical report on Butrint, Minister Gonxhe reacts: Challenging

Minister Blendi Gonxhe has reacted after the debate on the management of the National Archaeological Park of Butrint, after the critical UNESCO report.

Gonxhe says that the change in the management model, from the state with a concession, makes the process more difficult, but he says that he guarantees the public opinion that he will do his best, together with the Albanian-American Development Foundation, for the good administration of the change this model "in full implementation of international standards and the Albanian legal framework in force".

The UNESCo report on Butrint was quite critical, especially for changing the boundaries of the park, without the knowledge and approval of UNESCO, as well as for the new form of management of only a small part of the National Park, which includes the ancient city, leaving out under other areas.

In the capacity of the Minister responsible for cultural heritage and at the same time as the Chairman of the Management Board of the Foundation for the Management of Butrint (due to the function), I ensure the public opinion for the commitment and maximum attention for the good administration of the challenging process of changing the management model of the cultural property universal of Butrint National Park, in full implementation of international standards and the Albanian legal framework in force.

I and the team also appreciate the role of AADF in the excellent collaboration to achieve the optimal preconditions in supporting the BMF for the valuable investment in absorbing the best contemporary technical and professional expertise, worthy of the importance of the global asset in question, and necessary for the success of this extraordinary enterprise where the Albanian state is the leader, for the benefit of the public interest and where transparency and inclusiveness will be the key words!
