Prime Minister Edi Rama has once again raised concerns about illegal construction, ironizing cases of punishment of ordinary citizens, while large buildings have been allowed to grow without hindrance.
In a public statement, Rama brought up the example of a 90-year-old man, who ended up in the prosecutor's office and court as an unauthorized builder for a renovation in the Dajti area.
On the other hand, he said, in the center of the capital, floors have been built without permits in the building known as " The Eye of Tirana ", which have not been touched by inspectors for years.
"If all the villagers who were fined by the police for a single avlli (a type of garbage) gathered, it would be the biggest rally since Zhou Enlai's. Meanwhile, in the middle of Tirana, the Eye of Tirana has 4-5 floors without a permit. The message is clear: no matter how big your name is in construction, the state is bigger than you and you cannot enjoy construction without a permit," Rama declared.
According to him, current practices will end and any illegal construction will be confiscated by the state, regardless of who is behind it.
