Prime Minister Edi Rama sought help from the European Union to cope with the energy crisis.
"We have managed to continue like this, not raising the price of a cent of the energy. We have the lowest inflation in the region. We hope that the EU will not make the shameful mistake as during the pandemic for the post-war price crisis in Ukraine, where we were not given vaccines. We are at the heart of the EU," Rama said from Bled's strategic forum in Slovenia.
Rama's call precedes the EU meeting held on 9 September in relation to the strategy to be pursued for energy. Exits are expected at this meeting with a support package for the energy sector, especially for EU countries that are most affected by russian gas shortages.
Rama said Albania has no dependence on Russian gas, but that rising energy prices in international markets have strongly affected the country's budget.
Just a few days ago, Albania imported energy at the value of 7.6 mln euros for two days. Prices on international stock exchanges peaked on Saturday, when they exceeded 700 euros per megawatt.
