The report on Albania for 2025, approved by the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, also raises the issue related to the immunity of former Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku.
The report, which was approved with 58 votes in favor, 7 against and 7 abstentions, underlines the fact that the issue of immunity must be handled strictly in accordance with constitutional provisions and established legal procedures, without political interference and without unjustified delays.
"6 a. Recalls that parliamentary immunity is part of the constitutional framework designed to guarantee the proper functioning of democratic institutions; stresses that any decision in this regard must be taken strictly in accordance with constitutional provisions and established legal procedures, without political interference and without unjustified delays; (AM 96, 104 EPP, similar to AM 119 ECR)", the EP report specifically explains.
We recall that SPAK requested the lifting of Balluk's immunity to pave the way for her arrest, while the majority, by force of cards, rejected the request presented to the Assembly.
