Three days after the Democratic Party's Organization and Control of Electoral Operations Commission disqualified candidate Mereme Sela from the race for Democratic Party leader, on the grounds that she did not meet the criteria, the latter has filed a lawsuit with the Tirana court requesting the suspension of the process.
The candidate who was not accepted into the race against Berisha is seeking the invalidation of the disqualification decision, the invalidation of Sali Berisha's candidacy. The lawsuit also states that there is a serious violation of the statute and the principles of internal democracy.
On May 1, the Commission for the Organization and Control of Electoral Operations decided not to accept the applications of Mereme Sela and Vladimir Mulaj, who had expressed ambitions to replace Berisha.
" KOKOE unanimously assesses that Ms. Mereme SELA does not meet the criteria. Specifically, the candidate, despite being a member of the DP, does not meet the criteria of a figure with a very high public and political profile, as well as that of electoral leadership experience at the national or regional level ," KOKOE decided.
A day ago, Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha said that the race would become ridiculous if he ran against Mereme Sela.
